Stephen is an avid gig-goer who now basks in the reflected glory of artists with actual talent as he chronicles the adventures of Birmingham’s finest musicians in his reviews for Counteract and the Birmingham Press. The awards are for musicians of any instrument or voice and any style or tradition – including different national traditions. They are intended to encourage recipients to develop their musical and leadership skills and contribute significantly to music at UEA. A high standard of performance is expected, but equally important is a clear commitment to take leading roles in the musical life of the University.

With his third album, “Kleinstadt,” RIN freed himself from the idea of what German rap should sound like, and fans and critics alike cite this album as hugely influential in shaping the current sound of rap in the south of Germany. He was the first German artist to host his own show on Apple Music, “KLEINSTADTRADIO,” tied to the new album, and he has graced the cover of Apple Music’s HYPED and Deutschrap 100 playlists. Despa Robinson is Founder and Director of BE83 Music Group, a proud Birmingham music management, recording and publishing company.

In 1997, John also chaired the Rock the Vote campaign, persuading young people to register to vote in the general election. The John Preston Music Awards are being funded through the Liam Colgan Music Fund on behalf of John’s widow Roz Preston, who has set up a memorial fund in his memory. The LCMF are managing the fund and a programme of awards for young music business students across the Highlands and Islands. Students may apply from any locality, as distance is not a determining factor in allocating places on the Award Scheme.

Tributes from his friends in the industry were a testament to the high regard in which he was held. Over a 25 year career, John worked with many well-known artists including Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, David Bowie, Take That and Whitney Houston whilst Simon Cowell was among the many executives given early breaks by John. A highly respected executive, John was a long-standing council member and then chair of the music industry’s trade organisation BPI . He was also a director of Universal Publishing and a trustee of music industry charity The BRIT Trust during its formative years.

Composers should submit performances of their works if possible, accompanied by scores. Auditions for the 2022 Music Centre Awards, are scheduled to take place on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 October 2022. It pushes young people to find out about education, training and careers; opens career pathways they may not have considered; and develops leadership and research skills that compliment graded and other exams, including GCSE music. St Hugh’s1The Anna Haxworth Prize is a sum awarded for a musical performance of between 10 and 15 minutes on an instrument or voice by any student providing, if need be, their own accompanist. The competition is usually held in Hilary term and the winner is invited to give a recital shortly afterwards. Leask Music Scholarships are competed for by audition during Hilary Term and are intended to assist students with the cost of music lessons. Keble1Candidates should be at least Grade 8 ABRSM standard and many applicants in previous years have been playing at diploma level. Duties depend on the individual but they generally go on to hold an office in the college Music Society, perhaps in charge of organising music events.
