Having helped form and direct student record label New Street Records, Rohit now works for THSH and Jazzlines helping to develop the next generation of musicians, artists and producers, as well as championing the best of Birmingham’s existing artists. Meldra is Managing Director of The Song Lab, based in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. She has worked in the music industry since the age of twelve, as an artist , a session musician , and she is also a songwriter at TG Publishing . At The Song Lab Meldra mentors up and coming artists through numerous artist development programs. She is also a songwriting tutor at BIMM Birmingham, and dedicated to helping aspiring artists to thrive.

Driven by audience reaction to his sets, he decided to focus his energy on pushing homegrown talent in UK Hip Hop, R&B & Grime.

Please note that your commitment to contribute to musical life, and ability to be specific about how you intend to do this, will be extremely important in our decision making. The application deadline for the 2022 Music Centre Awards is 11am on Friday 7 October 2022. Where the Director of Music considers that a candidate has not met the required standard but shows promise, a smaller sum may be awarded to support their development towards a main award in a subsequent year. The award holder is expected to use the money to develop their musical skills and resource.

As the award will be given to students showing musical potential, no previous instrumental tuition will be necessary in order to apply. However, eligible students should demonstrate a strong aptitude for music. Each bursary will be tenable for one academic year and will provide up to £120 per term towards the cost of music lessons.
